Where are you from and where do you live now?
I was born in Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham and have lived here all my life. I actually love where I live, and sutton park is really close which is a great excuse to get out running!!
How long have you been part of the group and what’s been the most memorable moment so far?
I joined the group around September/October last year when there where about 500 members. There have been many great posts but I love to see everyone’s achievements as these spur me on and make me more eager to enter more races!
I also love reading the advice from more experienced runners and find them really inspirational!
What got you into running, what was your motivation?
I started running last year after having my second baby. I had already declared to my friends and family that I was going to run the Birmingham half marathon (on a whim) and thought the training would be a great way to get into shape post baby. At the time I had not even ran a mile and really had just planned to be able to finish the race! However 12 months on and 5 stone lighter, I am so glad I got out there for my first (and toughest) mile run.
When you’re not running what’s your day job?
I have 2 little children of my own which seems to be a full time job by itself, however I am also a child minder so always have a house full of crazy kids that keep me smiling!
What did you achieve during 2015 from a running point of view?
Well I really just set out to be able to complete the Birmingham half, whether that was run, walk or crawl. However, a few weeks into running I realised that I was really enjoying it and was finding it easier and easier. At the time I was suffering with post natal depression and I found that running really helped me to deal with things and sort my head out a little. After 6 weeks of running, I completed the Great Midlands Fun Run and finished in the top 100 ladies. I didn’t realise that my pace had improved as much as it had as I wasn’t recording my distances and runs. I was over the moon. I continued with my training and completed the Birmingham half in 1 hour and 45 mins. A whole hour quicker than I had originally put down as my estimated finishing time on my registration form!!
What type of music do you listen to?
Absolutely anything!! When I run I love listening to cheesy 90’s music, so you can often find me bopping along to the spice girls or something equally as embarrassing!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things could you not live without?
My kids, coffee and my trainers!
Given the opportunity to run any event worldwide, which would you choose and why?
I really would love to run the London marathon, in fact this is my next goal. I want to run a marathon next year to get a good for age time so I can enter London the following year…. watch this space!!!
Do stars clean themselves with meteor showers?
Eh?? Science never was my strong point!!
Finally, any tips for running and for the rest of our members?
Just enjoy it and get out there as often as you can. Don’t put it off or make excuses. Always push yourself, your body is capable of so much, it’s your mind that often holds you back!
