Where are you from and where do you live now?
I’m originally from super flat Wallasey on the Wirral and currently live in Brymbo, North Wales, not so flat, my running legs found that move challenging
How long have you been part of the group and what’s been the most memorable moment so far?
October – November’ish I think. Remembering isn’t my strong point…friends call me Dory! I haven’t got one to be honest but I must say having access to so much advice and like-minded people is great and I have enjoyed seeing some of the wackiest running tights ever
What got you into running, what was your motivation?
I LOVE food! So much so I need to exercise regularly, I wanted something I could do whenever, wherever and without costing a lot… at first I really didn’t enjoy it but just kept at it (to keep the expanding waist line at bay), only 2/3 milers at first and as they became easier I think my competitive gene took over. Now the challenge of going further keeps me motivated and you can’t beat an early morning run in the countryside with just bunnies and foxes for company
When you’re not running what’s your day job?
I’m an Apple Mac Operator, employed by a printing plate company in Manchester. Based in one of their customer’s artwork studios in Wrexham I generate press ready artwork for use in flexographic printing. I also do my own work artwork, mainly specialising in pharmaceutical packaging
If you were granted three wishes, how would you use them?
Hmmmm I’ve been injured and unable to run for nearly 3 months, so quite selfishly I might wish for a new right piriformis muscle, lower back and a right hamstring… failing that, world peace, an end to famine and possibly a 5 day weekend 😊
What one thing could you not leave at home when going out for a run?
My mobile phone I think, I don’t listen to music while running but I’m quite clumsy so the need to call husband or a taxi for collection after eating pavement could arise at any moment
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
That’s tough, every time we see a marvel film we argue about who’s having which super powers… 40 going on 5… I think I’d like to have super speed; there are never enough hours in the day
If you could single out one run ever, which would it be and why?
It would probably have to be Liverpool Rock and Roll Half Marathon 2015. First half I’d entered, was SO nervous especially running solo, shot off way too fast, teamed up with a lovely guy from mile 10, we were both dying to stop but miraculously kept the pace up and each other going. Beat my predicted time by 25 minutes coming in around 1hr 56mins, was really chuffed. It was just a fab, fun run, great atmosphere and lovely people, I’d recommend it to any one as their first half marathon. The steps in the arena are a bit tough when your legs have gone though…
Why is it called lipstick if you can still move your lips?
Haha…no idea, erm because it sticks to your lips…. is it stick shaped? Suppose it is quite stick’ish looking…
Finally, any tips for running and for the rest of our members?
Get the right size shoe, go up a half size or even a full; I’m still mourning the loss of a big toe nail 9 months on… gross! Stretch, stretch, stretch and strength training is great. The best piece of advice I’ve been given as a mostly solo runner was join a running club, I joined Wrexham AC, great team spirit, always someone to run with, makes the dark wintery runs safer and much more fun to get out and do too
