Chris Wells

Where are you from and where do you live now?

Born in South London, lived in a few countries when I was in my teens and twenties but back in the old stomping grounds now

How long have you been part of the group and what’s been the most memorable moment so far?

I joined about 5 months ago. The leggings moment does stand out as a definite memorable moment. But all the personal growth by all the runners is up there too

What got you into running, what was your motivation?

I was bet that I couldn’t run the London Marathon by my sister who had just finished the 2014 one. I was a heavy smoker, over weight non-runner, and enjoyed takeaways and beer. I had 364 days to go from couch to Marathon. I’m always up for a challenge

When you’re not running what’s your day job?

I am a Director of a School furniture manufacturing company

What did you achieve during 2015 from a running point of view?

I completed the London Marathon, my first and only (so far), in a few minutes under 6 hours

What type of music do you listen to?

When I’m running it’s anything that has a fast tempo, a lot of chart and dance stuff. Slower music slows me down. Outside of running it’s whatever is most popular with my kids

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things could you not live without?

My wok, everything tastes better from a wok, my Newton’s cradle, hours disappear sometimes and a rubiks cube, I never did get to solve one

Given the opportunity to run any event worldwide, which would you choose and why?

I’d love to run the Disney series 5k, 10k, half and full in 4 days. Running around Disney would be like running around a childhood dream. HEY Mickey!!

Do stars clean themselves with meteor showers?

Absolutely, that’s why they are always so twinkly and shiny

Finally, any tips for running and for the rest of our members?

I have a love/hate relationship with running. I hate running but love pizza so if you want more pizza; run more. For new runners, start slow and then run slower, the pace will come in time. Other runners, keep on trucking. I’m running a 100k Ultra at the end of April, for a bet. Anything is possible. I’m still over weight and love beer and takeaways but hey you only live once
